RICHMONDGovernor Ralph Northam today announced a dramatic expansion of Virtual Virginia, the Virginia Department of Education’s existing online learning system, to allow every teacher in the Commonwealth to host virtual classes while schools are closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Families interested in exploring the Virtual Virginia option, which will be provided to students in grades kindergarten through Grade 12, are encouraged to join us for an information session that will be held virtually on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, from 6 p.m. The most current version of the VVA Academic Calendar is always available at . While Virtual Virginia provides supplemental instruction in physical education/wellness, art, dance, music, computer science, and world languages within the current K5 schedule, we encourage students to participate in and have access to the local school’s special classes, such as library, music, art, and physical education. HCS will offer a limited virtual learning option for the 2021-2022 school year through the Virtual Virginia Program, which requires a parent/guardian virtual learning agreement that is due by June 4, 2021. Limited Virtual Learning for the 2021-2022 School Year Based on updated guidance, HCS will implement appropriate mitigation strategies to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff. No action is required for students who are returning to in-person learning.Īs we prepare for the opening of a new school year, HCS will take into advisement health guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the Virginia Health Department.
